Allen Jones Papers, . 1781

Allen Jones was brigadier general of the North Carolina Militia. The collection contains letters concerning military affairs addressed to Brigadier General Jones. Two letters, 10 July and 27 August 1781, are from the Marquis de Lafayette concerning Cornwallis's actions in Virginia and the impending invasion of North Carolina; one letter, 10 July 1781, is from Colonel Josiah Parker; one is from Colonel John Wills; and one, a contemporary handwritten copy, 18 July 1781, is probably from Thomas Burke.

Allen Jones (December 24, 1739 – November 14, 1807) was an American planter, American Revolution brigadier general of the Halifax District Brigade, and statesman from Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Born in Edgecombe (later Halifax) County in the Province of North Carolina, Jones was educated at Eton College before returning home.
